Memory Connections – Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Groups from Age UK
Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is proven to slow the initial progression of dementia and increase quality of life. It is recognised by the NHS as THE leading non-pharmaceutical intervention for those who have recently received a dementia diagnosis and focuses on exercising parts of the brain which are not used day to day. CST helps to create new neural connections, and stimulates brain growth and maintenance. It encourages new thoughts, communication, word finding and using the imagination when the memory is not accessible.
The programme is delivered by fully-trained staff and offers a range of enjoyable activities providing general stimulation for thinking, concentration and memory. Members will experience a fun, supportive environment where they can build new friendships, and carers will be offered respite.
Activities will include:
• discussions
• word games
• quizzes
• physical activities
• creative and musical activities
The group meets at the Victoria Park Community Centre in Bridgwater on Tuesdays. Group sessions are usually 2 hours long. For more information, get in touch using the details below.
